Why the Week on International Affairs?

Open Letter from the Organizer

Hello,

I'm Harvey Dupiton, Chair of the NGO Committee on Private Sector Development, a committee evolving to represent a coalition of accredited NGOs and private sector interlocutors working in consultative status with the United Nations.

I take this day June 1, 2025, marking the transition of leadership at the helm of the presidency of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), as an opportunity to announce with great enthusiasm the 2025 UN General Assembly Week: Our “Week of International Affairs”, which will take place from September 21 to 29, 2025, at the United Nations Headquarters, in New York City and across the Tri-State area.

We extend our sincere appreciation to the outgoing President of the General Assembly, H.E. Mr. Philémon Yang of Cameroon, and congratulate H.E. Ms. Annalena Baerbock of Germany on her election as the incoming President. As they take up this vital role in steering multilateral diplomacy, we are reminded of how crucial multiculturalism and diversity, the core themes of our Week, are to today’s globalized society.

We also recognize Hon. Mayor Eric Adams and his counterparts across the Tri-State region for their continued leadership in hosting the High-Level Week, year after year.

As members of civil society, we are proud to undertake the responsibility of elevating this critical moment into a true event of Olympic caliber that delivers on our mission-front to make jobs and the economy top priority of the global agenda. By this, we mean a celebration that inspires the same spirit of national pride and global unity as the Olympic Games—fostering diplomacy, cultural pride, and international cooperation.

To that end, our collaborative framework is designed to connect the dots between existing high-level events and the diverse activities that organically emerge across the city during this time. Our goal is to multiply the reach and impact of UNGA Week tenfold.

Key highlights of this year’s expanded initiative include:
• A Diaspora General Assembly to precede the main week in late August;
• A series of platforms for action that invite broad civil society participation;
• A partnership campaign to drive meaningful commitments and outcomes.

We invite you to join us—as a member of the Host Committee, a member of the Group Friend of the Diaspora, an event organizer, or a sponsor—to help shape this ambitious week of diplomacy and global engagement.

We look forward to welcoming you!

With Warm regards,

Harvey Dupiton, Chair
